2006 Lifetime Service Awards
BOB DAVIS
Bob officiated wrestling for 47 years and officiated numerous Section tournaments & 2 State Tournaments. He was the Central Section Wrestling Advisory Chairman for 13 years, CIF Wrestling Rules Interpreter for 12 years & advisor to the National High School Federation Wrestling Rules Committee.
CHRIS FEDER
Chris placed 2nd in the NCAA DII Championships for C.W. Post University & coached wrestling at Terra Linda HS for 15 years. He has been associated with 24 Hour Fitness for many years & sponsored numerous wrestling tournaments, as well as the CIF and California USA Wrestling. Chris now owns his own fitness organization.
DAVID JACKSON
David was on the Kingsburg School Board, he represented the CA State School Board Assoc on the CIF Wrestling Advisory Committee, was President of the Advisory Committee & his leadership was both appreciated & respected. He is active in his community & has given countless hours & effort to support organizations/schools.
VERN BROOKS
Vern coached at Rock Springs, Wyoming & won the Wyoming State Championship. Coached at Madera HS for 12 years. His teams won 2 Nor Cal, 5 NYL, & 5 Central Section Championships. He coached 27 Central Section & 12 Nor Cal (5 in 1957) Champions. Vern always motivated his athletes to reach the highest level of success & treated his wrestlers as if they were family.
JOE CONELY
Joe coached for 25 years at Exeter HS. He retired from teaching & coaching for two years & returned to Exeter to coach again. He produced many championship teams as well as individual champions. Joe was very active in his community as a member of organizations that were involved in helping the youth in his community. He served on numerous committees in the Exeter area.
SAM CRANDELL
San coached at Kingsburg HS for over 45 years & was close to 70 when he retired. He coached many championship teams and individuals. A gentleman and great role model for generations of kids, Sam was involved with many organizations that supported youth programs in the Kingsburg area.
NANCY SCHULTZ
Founder of the Dave Schultz WC in honor of her late husband. This organization has helped support countess numbers of wrestlers and has enabled many to win national titles and become members of our Olympic Wrestling Teams. Nancy has also been a board member of the National Wrestling HOF, USA Wrestling and has supported numerous wrestling programs by both her participation and financial donations.
MIKE STRICKER
This man has done so much towards the support of wrestling programs in the Bakersfield area. The Coyote Club, under his leadership has supported numerous programs and individuals. Mike lives, eats and breathes wrestling and his love for the sport is obvious and his generosity is appreciated by many.
DR. JOHN TAYLOR
MVP of his HS wrestling team, competed at American River JC and Cal State Bakersfield. He participated in wrestling competitions in both Japan and Iran. He served as a volunteer coach at Ponderosa HS for many years, involved with many cultural exchange programs, served as a host for teams visiting from foreign countries. He provided medical care at various wrestling tournament including the state tournament.
GW WINGO
GW was a 2x Nor Cal Champion at Oakdale HS. He was Modesto’s first state JC Champion and an outstanding wrestler Cal Poly. He taught and coached wrestling at Oakdale HS and organized many youth wrestling programs. He was responsible for developing many outstanding wrestlers from the Oakdale and Waterford area. G.W. passed away in 2004.

GERRY ABAS – interview
Gerry placed 2nd & 3rd at the State Tournament for Oakland Tech HS. At Fresno State, he was a 4x NCAA AA, 3x runner up in the NCAA D1 Championships, the first wrestler to be a 4x AA in the WAC Conference, won the Junior National Freestyle & the Espoir Championship. He was the assistant coach at FSU for ten years & he helped to establish the wrestling program at Fresno Pacific.
DAN CHAID – interview
Dan was a 2x State Champion for Gunderson HS. At the University of Oklahoma, he was a NCAA Division I Champion and Runner-up, 4x NCAA DI AA. He was a National HS Greco Roman, 2x World Veterans FS Champion & medaled 9x in the National Open. He coached the U.S. National Freestyle Team & Dave Schultz WC. Dan has been the wrestling coach and teacher at Wilcox HS.
LENNIS COWELL – interview
Lennis was a NCS Champ, placed 3rd, 2nd & 1st at Nor Cal for Pleasant Hill HS. At DVC, he was conference & regional champion (OW) & placed 3rd at the JC State. At Cal Poly, 2x CCAA, 2x NCAA Regional Champion, 2x NCAA DII AA, placed 3rd & 4th at NCAA DII Championships. Coached Clovis West HS two State Championships, 85 match winning streak & coached Cal Poly for 19 years.
MARTY KISTLER – interview
Marty was a Southern Section Champion for Notre Dame HS. He was also the first 4x finalist at the State Tournament, placing 2nd 2x, 1st 2x. At Iowa, Marty won the NCAA DI Championship 2x, placed 2nd, & was selected as the Outstanding Wrestler of the NCAA Tournament.
MONTY MULLER – interview
Marty was an outstanding wrestler at La Sierra HS & inducted into the HOF. MVP at American River & in the HOF. Conference champ & the MVP San Francisco State. Monty coached and taught, officiated 18 State Tournaments (ranked the number one official), 22 years of JC wrestling including many state tournaments & was the commissioner of the wrestling officials for the Sac Joaquin Section.
GLENN TAKAHASHI – interview
Glenn was a 2x Masters Champion, undefeated in 1965-1967, section “Wrestler of the Year” at Monte Vista HS. WAC Champion at BYU. At Valhalla HS, selected as Coach of The Year: Conference 9x, San Diego Section 4x, California 1x, & 200 dual wins. His teams have won 16 league, 10 Section, & a State Title, also placed 4th 4x and a 2nd in the State.
RAY WALLACE – interview
Ray wrestled at Emerson HS & Ball State. He has been a wrestling official for over 30 years and has officiated 30 CIF, 25 Masters, 12 State, and 7 JC State Championships. He has been the President of: CWOA, SCWOA, SCCWOA & OCWOA, is in the Orange County Wrestling HOF, & was selected as the OC Wrestling Official of the Year 7x.
BUCK DEADRICH
Buck was a 4x Freestyle National Champion and Sambo National Champion. He wrestled on the USA World Teams in Greco 2x (placed 6th), Freestyle (University Games – 2nd) & Sambo. Buck was a member of the 1972 United States Greco-Roman Olympic Team. He was the head coach Cal State Stanislaus.
