    Gerry Abas - Gerry Abas is entering his tenth season on the Bulldog staff after enjoying a successful career at Fresno State under head coach Dennis DeLiddo. Abas was a four-time All-American (3X runnerup) for the Bulldogs from 1992-95. His 134 career wins rank second among Fresno State wrestlers. His career win percentage of .870 is No. 4 all-time. Only eight Bulldogs have ever had more wins in a single season than the 41 he had as a freshman in Õ92. A large part of the most successful era in Fresno State wrestlingÕs history, from the time that Abas started wrestling in 1992 to the present, the Bulldogs have had 21 All-American wrestlers. Before that time Fresno State there had produced just 12 All-American wrestlers. AbasÕ second year on the team was the first of seven consecutive seasons where Fresno State won the WAC Championships. While competing for Oakland Tech High School, Abas finished second and third in the CIF state championships and finished his high school career with a 112-14 record. He was invited to participate in the United States Olympic Festival and was a member of the California National Team in 1990 and captured an the Junior National Freestyle Championship.

    Stephen Abas - 1993 California State 4th place medalist É 1994, 95 & 96 California State ChampionÉ National High School Champion and Most Outstanding WrestlerÉ 1996 Junior National Freestyle Champion and Most Outstanding WrestlerÉ 1997 Jr. World National Freestyle ChampionÉ 1998 Jr. World National Freestyle ChampionÉ 1999 Jr. World National ChampionÉ 1999 United States Jr. World Freestyle Team member - Gold Medalist at Jr. World Championships. In high school Stephen Abas was a three-time California State champion. At that time he was only the seventh wrestler in history to win three state titles in California. At Fresno State, he compiled a 144-4 overall record. He completed two perfect seasons with no losses. His junior and senior years Abas went 34-0 and 35-0, respectively. Abas won the NCAA Championships three-times (1999, 2001, 2002) in the 125 division. He became the 40th wrestler in NCAA history to win three national titles. He is a four-time All-American and conference/regional champion. Abas broke almost every stat in the Bulldog record books. He holds the record for career wins (144) and career winning percentage (.973). Abas has been on Team USA for four years. He is currently ranked first at 55 kg. He won the World Team Trials from 2001-03. He is the 2003 U.S. Nationals champion. He took fourth in the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Abas took fifth in the 2003 World Championships and won the Pan American Games. He is the 2002-03 World Cup Champion and he took second in the 2003 Cup of Independence in Uzbekistan. Finally, Abas traveled as part of team USA to Athens for the 2004 Olympic Games, where he won a silver medal.

    Bob Anderson -

    Rod Balch Ð Wrestling: He wrestled for Clovis High School where he was a 2 time Central Section Champion, won the California State Tournament. At Fresno City College, he won the Community College State title. At Bakersfield College, he was a 3 time conference champion and was 2nd in NCAA division 2. Coaching: He coached 15 years at Clovis High School, where they won 8 North Yosemite League Championships, 7 Central Section Championships and 3 California State Championships. He was also voted California State Coach of the Year.

    Jesse Barajas - A native of Stockton, California where he was an excellent HS wrestler and a tremendous artist. He attended Delta College and wrestled for Larry Jones and his passion for wrestling continued to grow. As he moved to San Francisco State he wrestled for another wrestling coach, Dr. Allen Abraham, who stimulated the wrestling appetite that Jess had. The influence of Larry Jones and Allen Abraham to positively influence and motivate young men led Jess to the field of education and began his teaching at Sheppard Jr. H.S. in San Jose. He coached and taught art for 2 years then the opening at Overfelt High School occurred for an art teacher and a coach. Jess inherited a program rich in tradition and took it to the next level. His team won many league and section titles and a state championship in 1979. Overfelt is still one of the top teams in the record books for amount of wrestlers it had placed in the state meet since 1973. Currently Jess is assigned to the District office in the Eastside Union High School program in charge of grassroots director.

    Matt Blevin Ð Mountain View High School varsity wrestler for four years where he was both CCS Runner-up and CCS Champion. Two-time CIF State qualifier. CIF State Meet - fourth place. California State Junior College Champion for West Valley Junior College. NCAA Div. II National Champion and third place at the NCAA Div. II Nationals. Two-time All-American for San Francisco State. He was State Freestyle Open Champion and two-time runner up, Assistant Coach for three years for SFSU. Assistant Coach for SFSU for the 1997 NCAA Div. II National Championship Team. He currently works at SFSU in the J. Paul Leonard Library as the Head of Facilities.

    Fred Bonha - CLOVIS H.S. STATE CIF 191-POUND CHAMPION-1974. NCAA DIVISION I HWT CHAMPION AT UCLA-1979.

    Sam Boyd - WESTERN STATE COLLEGE, GUNNISON, CO. PLAYED 3 SPORTS; FOOTBALL, WRESTLING, AND TENNIS. PLACED 4 TIMES IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE AS HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION IN 1956 AS WELL AS THE RUNNER-UP ONE YEAR (EVEN THOUGH HE NEVER WRESTLED IN HIGH SCHOOL). COACHED WRESTLING AT GUNNISON, CO, CARPINTERIA, AND MORRO BAY HIGH SCHOOL. HE STARTED YOUTH WRESTLING PROGRAMS IN MORRO BAY, ATASCADERO, AND PASO ROBLES. HE COACHED CRAIG TROXLER (CIF STATE CHAMPION-1976 AND MIKE HARTMAN, THE OUTSTANDING WRESTLER IN THE CIF SOUTHERN SECTION. HE HAS HELPED RAISE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR YOUTH, HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE ATHLETICS. HE IS THE DIRECTOR OF THE CALIFORNIA INVITATIONAL WRESTLING TOURNAMENT.     Armand Brett Ð Armand wrestled at the South San Francisco High School (1967) and College of San Mateo (1969). He was an outstanding wrestler. He won the Northern California Community College Championship in 1969. He wrestled at Chico State at 118 lbs. Armand was the head wrestling coach at Chico State University from 1974-1991. His teams won seven Far Western Conference and Northern California Athletic Conference Championships. He was named Far Western and Northern California Athletic Conference coach of the year six times. He was a member of the NCAA rules committee from 1983-1989. He coached 52 conference champions and 29 NCAA Division II All-Americans. His team won the NCAA Division II Western Region Team Championship in 1991. His teams and wrestlers were awarded 105 Academic First Team Awards and the most Academic All-Americans in the Nation (Division II Wrestling). The National Collegiate Wrestling Officials Association presented him the PresidentÕs Award for his distinguished service in 1991.

    Max Burch Ð High School from Redding, CA. During his long tenure in Redding his teams had many league, section, Norcal, and state titles. Northern California, while not being a major power in the state, was always represented well by Max BurchÕs teams. He was definitely a major player and contributor to the sport of wrestling statewide. He is now the coach at Shasta College

    Mike Burley Ð He coached at Redondo H.S. and Luezinger H.S. in the early 1950Õs where his teams were CIF Southern Section runner-ups. Mike was a pioneer in the development of the sport of wrestling in the South Bay area.

    Dave Canclini Ð Head Wrestling Coach Stagg HS for 17 years winning Subsection Championships(1975-76) and several City Championships. He had many outstanding wrestlers including Jesse Barajas who coached Overfelt HS to a State Championship in 1979. Former member of the Nor Cal H.S. Wrestling Coaches Association. Co-Directed Nor Cal H.S. Wrestling Tournament at Stockton-1966. Head Scorekeeper of CIF State Tournament the past 14 years. He retired in 1999 after teaching at Stagg HS for 36 years.

    Dan Chaid Ð

    Chuck Chandler Ð Chuck has been a successful wrestling and football coach in the Stockton area High Schools. Chuck was a member of California USA Wrestling coach staff to the National Tournament. He has many section placers and Nor Cal placers. Currently Chuck has been the director for the CIF State Wrestling championships-11 years. His dedication and diligence to run a quality meet has been his forte. He has the uncanny ability to surround himself with quality people to help him pull off this magnificent event.

    Scott Chapman Ð Rim of the World High, Three-time Champion 1991-1993, Stanford. PAC-10 5th Place

    Art Chavez Ð Art placed 2nd in State Community Championships in 1966. He placed 5th at 123 lbs. in the College Division NCAA in 1969. He was the National AAU Freestyle Champion and the National AAU Greco-Roman Champion in 1968. He placed 7th in the World Greco-Roman Championships of 1969. He won the Far Western Conference in 1968 and was selected the Most Outstanding Conference Wrestler. Art won the 1968 Final Olympic Trials in Freestyle at 114 lbs. Art was considered the second best wrestler in the Country at 114 lbs. Behind Rick Sanders between 1968 and 1972.

    Lennis Cowell Ð Wrestling: Pleasant Hill HS - 3rd, 2nd & 1st in Northern California Championships, Undefeated Senior year, Team Captain, D.V.A.L. (Most Outstanding Wrestler), & Northern California Team Champions. Diablo Valley College - League Champ, Regional Champion (Most Outstanding Wrestler), State Community College Championships, 3rd place. Cal Poly Ð 2X C.C.A.A. League Champion, 2X NCAA Regional Champion, 2X NCAA College Division All-American (3rd, 4tth), ranked eighth on all-time CP quickest fall 22 seconds, NCAA College Division Team Runner-Up, 1965, NCAA College Division Team Champions, 1966 (First NCAA Champions for Cal Poly).     Russ Cozart Ð Southern Section Runnerup for Upland HS. Wrewtled for the University of Alabama. He has coached for 25 years at Brandon HS in Florida and has won the state Championship in Florida 14 times. Bandon currently holds the national record for consecutive wins without a defeat (325-0). Last year his team was ranked #3 in the nation by Intermat. He was the coach of the US Dream Team in the dual against Team California in 2004, Head Caoch for the Florida Greco Raman National Dual Team that won the National Title with 7 of his wrestlers on the team. He has won the WorldÕs Veterans Championship 6 times and is a respected clinician.

    Bob Davis Ð Bob has been an active official for the past 30 years in the Fresno/Tulare area. He has worked 2 state meet tournaments and was the instructor for the Tulare region. Bob has served as the State Rules Interpreter for 11 years and has done an outstanding job. He is also a member of the CIF Wrestling Advisory Committee. He retired from Hanford High School as a principal and continues to represent wrestling on the state level by conducting certification clinics throughout the state.

    Gary deBeuabien - WRESTLED AT MIRA COSTA H.S. WINNING THE STATE H.S. FREESTYLE CHAMPIONSHIP IN 1964. THIS WAS THE FIRST STATE H.S. FREESTYLE CHAMPIONSHIPS AS WELL AS THE SELECTION PROCESS FOR THE FIRST H.S. TOUR OF JAPAN. GARY WAS THE FIRST WRESTLING COACH AT IRVINE H.S. AND DEVELOPED A VERY STRONG PROGRAM. HE WENT ON TO COACH AT SANTA ANA JR. COLLEGE WHERE HE HAD 30 ALL-AMERICANS. HE COACHED FOR 30 YEARS AT THE H.S. AND JUNIOR COLLEGE LEVELS.

    Al DeFerrari Ð

    Ed DeFerrari - WORKED IN THE SALES OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES. ED BEGAN SELLING THE ÒNEWÓ TYPE OF WRESTLING MAT (RESILITE) IN 1959. HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPPLYING MATS FOR ALMOST EVERY HIGH SCHOOL, COLLEGE AND CLUB IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. HE WAS A TALENTED ARTIST AND ALWAYS PRESENTED THE COACH WITH AN ARTISTIC PRESENTATION OF HOW THE MAT WOULD LOOK PRIOR TO PLACING THE FINAL ORDER. HE ALSO WAS AN OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTOR TO THE SPORT WITH HIS DONATION OF TIME AND MONEY. HE WOULD ALWAYS PROVIDE TEAM TROPHIES, OUTSTANDING WRESTLER AWARDS, ETC., TO ENHANCE WRESTLING TOURNAMENTS.

    Dale Deffner - wrestler at Morningside HS placing 2nd in the Section, El Camino College (State JC champion (1960), and Long Beach State. PCI Champion at Long Beach and 4th in NCAA (1963). Coached at Long Beach State (65-69), coached at Jordan HS (69-70), and started coaching at Golden West College in 1970 until the present time. He coached 9 state JC Champions, 2 outstanding state JC wrestlers, 25 AA and has 200 wins.. He has been a wrestling official at the high school, college and international level since 1963. He is a category 1 FILA official & Pairing Master & has officiated Regional Olympic Trials and AAU Nationals. Dale was named Orange Co Coach of the Year and is also a member of the Orange Co HOF and the National HOF. He was the National AAU Association Chairman of the Year & the So California Wrestling Association Chairman (1973-2000)

    Dennis Deliddo Ð Wrestling: Wrestled at Fresno City College and placed 5th at the California Community College State Championships. At Fresno State, he was the conference runner-up 2 times. Coaching: He coached Clovis High School for 10 years where they won 9 North Yosemite League titles, 5 Central Section Championships and 3 California State Championships(1974-76) and took one second place state finish (1973). They accumulated a 145-7-1 record DeLiddo was also crowned Valley Wrestling Coach of the Year five times. Two wrestlers went on and one won a NCAA division 1 championship and one won a NCAA division 2 championship. He is presently coaching at Fresno State University (23 years). Under his reign Fresno State has captured 11 Top 25 NCAA team finishes, 10 of them from 1992-02. While in the Western Athletic Conference the Bulldogs won seven straight championships from 1993-99. He was named WAC Coach of the Year four times. DeLiddo was also a two-time coach of the year while in the PCAA. In 1994 he sent a school-record eight wrestlers to the NCAA Championships (he has sent seven wrestlers five times). In 1993 DeLiddo was runner-up for the National Coach of the Year award when he led Fresno State to a best-ever eighth place finish at the NCAAÕs and its first WAC title. In 1996 DeLiddo was asked to be an assistant coach for the U.S. Olympic wrestling team. The 1999 season saw DeLiddo guide his team to its seventh consecutive WAC team title and he garnished his first national champion wrestler in Stephen Abas at 125 pounds. Fresno State set a West Coast attendance record when it attracted 9,750 fans to the dual against second-ranked Iowa State held in the Save Mart Center on Jan. 6, 2004. DeLiddo also earned his 300th career win when the Bulldogs beat Cal State Fullerton at home. DeLiddoÕs winning record is among the best in the nation as he is believed to be only the 14th collegiate to reach 300 wins. During his 23 years at the helm, DeLiddo has produced 27 All-Americans, 55 individual conference champions, and has placed the Bulldogs at every NCAA meet since his second season in 1983. His 304-165-3 career record makes him the winningest coach in Fresno State history.

    Leon Donahue Ð

    William Dougherty Ð Bill was a four year varsity letterman in high school. He was a finalist in the San Joaquin Section Championships all four years and won the Section once. He was a three time champion and took 2nd at the Northern California Championships with a record of 20-1. His four year varsity record was 117-15 and he maintained a 3.50 GPA. He wrestled at UC Davis for four years.

    Oscar Edminster Ð OSCAR CAME TO CAL POLY IN THE FALL OF 1948 AS A 36 YEAR OLD FRESHMAN. HE HAD A TREMENDOUS ATHLETIC BACKGROUND IN HIS YOUNGER YEARS IN SEVERAL SPORTS BUT HE HAD NEVER WRESTLED. AFTER WATCHING SOME WRESTLING PRACTICES, OSCAR FELL IN LOVE WITH THE SPORT AND HIS FIRST AND LAST JOB WAS AT TULARE H.S. HE COACHED WRESTLING THERE FOR MANY YEARS. HIS TEAMS WERE VERY COMPETITIVE. TWO OF HIS WRESTLERS WERE FORMER CAL POLY WRESTLERS FREDDIE FORD AND JOHN ALLEN. HE IS HIGHLY RESPECTED BY EVERYONE WHO KNOWS HIM.

    Lee Erhler ÐWrestled at Modesto HS & Placed 2nd in the Northern California Wrestling Championships. At Modesto JC, he was a JC State Champion. At UCLA, he was a 2X Pac 10 Champion and placed 3rd in NCAA Div I. He beat the champion a week later at the East West Dual. Lee placed 2nd & 3rd in the National AAU Greco-Roman Tournament and 4th twice in Freestyle. He began coaching (assistant) at UCLA in 1970, coached numerous high schools and then became head coach at Modesto JC in 1986. He has had 2 State champions, 18 AA, & 56 state placers. Lee has been President of the California Community College Wrestling Coaches Association for 3 years. In 1992, Lee was inducted into the Modesto JC HOF.

    Diane Evans Ð

    Jack Feibig Ð Coached Wrestling at Santa Cruz H.S. Outstanding wrestlers included Ed Farrell (2x-Nor Cal Champ), Doyne Weaver (1x Nor Cal) Todd and Peter Likens (Peter now President, Univ. of Arizona). Original Treasurer of Nor Cal H.S. Wrestling Coaches Association. Coached at Capachino H.S. for 16 years.

    John Finch Ð An outstanding three year letterman wrestler from Acalanes H.S. He was a three time league champion, two time section champion, and 2nd in the Northern California Wrestling Championships. At Cal Poly, he was a four time letterman, four time conference champion and voted the most outstanding wrestler in the conference his senior year. He had a dual meet record of 42-9-2 and an overall record of 94-18-2. John placed all four years at the NCAA Division II National Championships, winning the Championship his freshman year and placed 3rd and 2nd twice. He placed 3rd at the NCAA Division I National Championships.

    Karen Foley Ð A Pairing Master with USWOA, Karen was selected to the Pairing Director position on the California USA Wrestling Board of Directors of which she served for several years. As a Pairing Master, Karen worked as a Head Pairer at many local, State, National, and International wrestling events. She has conducted many local and state training sessions. Her effort has helped produce a strong pairing department for the State of California.

    Steve Gardner Ð Steve was a three time league champion and placed 5th and 1st in the Southern Section (1968-69) for Chaffey H.S. and Ontario H.S. with a record of 106-5. He was named ÒHelmÕsÓ All American and set a record for the most consecutive pins (28). He also played football and was an All-League guard and All CIF linebacker. At Cal Poly, he was a three time CCAA Champion, placed 5th in the NCAA Division II National Championships with a record of 61-23-1. In 1989, at the age of 38, he won the California State Police Olympics in Freestyle and Greco Roman, US National Police Olympics Championship in Freestyle and Greco Roman in both the Open and Masters Divisions and was the International Law Enforcement Olympics Freestyle Champion.

    Erwin Goldbloom - Erwin wrestled some in high school. Then wrestled at UCLA for coach Briggs Hunt. He also wrestled in some of the Southern California AAU tournaments. He first coached at Simi Valley H.S. for seven years, where one of his teams won the Southern Section CIF Championship He then coached at Pierce College for many years and recently retired. He was very active in the Cultural Exchange Program and has officiated since 1955, including the NCAA National Championships in 1965. He is the assignment chairman for the San Fernando Valley and the South Bay. He has hels many administrative positions in the Southern California Wrestling Officials Associations.

    Joe Gomes Ð Joe attended Fremont H.S. in Oakland and won the Northern California Invitational Tournament. He attended San Francisco State and was the team captain from 1957-59. He was undefeated most of his college career and was on the USA World Team in 1961,1962 and 1964.     Alex Gonzales Ð Ales wrestled for Oak Grove High School in San Jose and Hogan High School in Vallejo. He was an All-American for San Francisco State University. He won the Far Western Conference Champion and Division II National Champion in 1975 at 126 lbs. He was the Far Western Champion and placed second at 126 lbs. In the Division II National Championship in 1976.

    Noreen Gosse Ð Nori is an active pairing member of the United State Wrestling Officials association (USWOA). She has worked almost every major state tournament in California and many national and international tournaments. She has been the Head Pairer at numerous California State tournaments, national and international tournaments. Nori has become what many said Òthe permanent Head Pairing OfficialÓ at the Concord International Cup. Her contribution to wrestling throughout California and the nation is without a doubt vital and important to our sport.

    Morris Johnson Ð Morris wrestled for San Francisco State from 1982-84. He was a two-time NCAA Division II All American and a NCAA Division II National Champion in 1984 and came within one match of placing in the NCAA Division I Championships. Morris placed twice at the Midlands Tournament and numerous times at the Nationals in Greco Roman and Freestyle. From 1985-87 he placed 3rd at the USAW Nationals in Greco Roman all three years, 3rd at the USAW Nationals in Freestyle in 1986, Pan American Games Champion in 1986, 3rd at the Tblisi Tournament, placed 5th in the USAW Greco Roman Nationals and 4th at the Olympic Trials in 1989. He placed 2nd in the Sombo World Championships. Morris received his PH.D in counseling from Bryn University in Philadelphia and currently has a counseling practice in that city.

    TJ Kerr - He was a member of the Delmar High School varsity wrestling team. In college, he wrestled at San Jose State University. From 1972-1984,he was Head Wrestling Coach at San Jose State University. From 1984 to present, T.J. is the Head Wrestling Coach at Cal State Bakersfield. He was the former president of the National Wrestling Coached Association, co-coach of the NWCA All-Star Classic, PCAA Coach of the Year- 7 times, PAC-10 Coach of the Year- 3 times and National NWCA Coach of the Year in 1996. Highest Division I placement Ð third. The team had placed in the top 25 at the DIV I tournament 13 times. His overall college dual meet record 330-149-7. Coached three NCAA DIV I Champions & 29 NCAA AA. Won two PAC-10 Conference Championships. Won one NCAA DIV II National Championship and voted NCAA DIV II Coach of the Year.     Al Kiddy - Coach Kiddy graduated from Jenks High School in Oklahoma after earning "All State" honor in wrestling, football, baseball and wining the State 100 yard dash and finishing 2nd in the 220 yard dash. Al went on to Oklahoma University where he lettered in wrestling, football and baseball for Coach Port Robertson and Bud Wilkerson. Al is 1 of 9 athletes at Oklahoma University to achieve this. Al coached at Hughson HS from 1960-64, had three Trans Valley championship teams and coached 5 Northern California Tournament champions. He coached a t Mclane HS in Fresno in 1965 and cohad two Central ÒValleyÓ Section Champions. One of the premier coaches in the "Valley", Coach Kiddy led his teams to an overall record of 237 wins,15 losses and 2 ties as well as 6 North Yosemite League Championships, 5 "Valley" Championships and a 2nd place in the State Championships at Madera HS. During his tenure Coach Kiddy has coached young men to numerous championships to include Sammie King, Pete King, Larry Tribble, Billy Tate and capping it off with State Champ Ernie Flores in the first CIF State Championships. He was an assistant coach at Fresno City College from 1976-84.

    Marty Kistler Ð Marty attended Notre Dame H.S. and was a finalist at the California State Championships all four years (2 1st and 2 2nd) and was a CIF Southern Section Champion. Wrestled at U.C.L.A. and the University of Iowa. At Iowa he won the NCAA Division I Championship two times, placed 2nd and was selected as the Outstanding Wrestler at the NCAAÕS.

    Tim Kopitar - CIF STATE H.S. CHAMPION, WAS A DOMINANT HEAVYWEIGHT H.S. WRESTLER IN THE BAY AREA. WRESTLED AT DIABLO VALLEY COLLEGE. ATTENDED CAL POLY WHERE HE WAS A NCAA DIVISION II CHAMPION-1971.

    Sam Lawson Ð Sam started his wrestling career at San Jose State, wrestling for the legendary Hugh Mumby from 1946-48. He was the first alternate at the 1948 Olympic Trails. He started the wrestling program at Palo Alto H.S. in 1948. In 1951, he started teaching at Cupertino Union School and started the youth wrestling program. He was a wrestling referee from 1949 through the 60Ôs and was an original member of BACWOA. In 1977 Sam was awarded the Martin Olavarri Award for his service to wrestling and for being a respected gentleman, official and educator. He remained involved in wrestling for the remainder of his life. He supported his two sonÕs wrestling careers and was one of the founders of the Bianchini Memorial Wrestling Tournament held at Cupertino H.S.

    Eric Leslie Ð

    Lee Lofton Ð Lee wrestled for American HS and Qualified for the CIF State Tournament. He played football and wrestled at San Francisco State and has the distinction of being the last player to catch a football for the Gators before they dropped the program. He was the northern California Conference Champion in 1994, in 1996 he placed 1st and 8th at the NCAA Division II National Championships, was Team Co-Captain of the National Championship team Most Inspirational Wrestler, Most Valuable, Most Improved and assistant coach in 1999 Ð 2000.

    Mark Loomis Ð Wrestler - 4 years letterman at Bella Vista. He finished 5th in the CIF State as Junior and won the CIF State Championship s a senior. Mark won the State JC Championship at SAC City College then transferred to CS Bakersfield. Loomis finished 3rd in the NCAA Division II 2X and completed his career by winning the NCAA Division II National Title.

    Al Lyles Ð He was the coach at Pacific H.S. in San Bernardino. His team won the Southern Section CIF Championships three times. He was a pioneer in the development of the sport in the San Bernardino area. He hosted many cultural exchange teams.

    Bruce Lynn Ð Bruce wrestled for Los Gatos H.S. from 1967-70 and had a record of 97-9. He was a three time WVAL Champion, placed 1st and 3rd in the Central Coast Section, team captain for three years, voted the teamÕs outstanding wrestler, placed 2nd in the Greco Roman Junior National Championships. He also earned four letters in football , was all League at fullback and won the Coburn Award (outstanding athlete, scholar and citizen). He wrestled a Cal Poly from 1970-75 with a record of 65-14-2. He was a two time CCAA Champion, NCAA Western Regional Champion and placed 2nd at the NCAA Division II National Championships in 1974. Bruce was the MVP and Outstanding Wrestler in 1974, team captain and most inspirational wrestler in 1975, and holds the record for the fastest pin (8 sec). At 40, Bruce won the New Zealand National Freestyle championships. Bruce has also been very active with the local high school wrestlers and freestyle teams. He has donated his time as a coach and assisted in various ways at local tournaments.

    Lou Montano Ð Lou was a three sport athlete for Calexico H.S., wrestling, football and baseball. Lou played quarterback on the football tqeam and was selected MVP in the Desert Valley League and placed 3rd in the California High School State Wrestling Championships in 1978. Lou enrolled at Cal Poly in the fall of 1978 and compiled a four year record of 112-16-1, setting a record for the most average wins per season. He was twice an NCAA Division I All American and placed 2nd as a senior with a record of 41-2-1. His coaching career began at Cal Poly where he was an assistant coach for three seasons (1984-86). He then moved to Cal State Bakersfield where he was an assistant for five seasons (1986-91). He became the head coach at Columbia University for the next nine seasons (1991-2000). Montano has also served wrestling for many years as an wrestling skills technician, making Presentations throughout the nation at major camps and clinics.

    Duane Morgan - Duane has been active in the sport of wrestling since he was introduced to the sport as a freshman at Oak Grove High School in 1967. After college wrestling at San Jose City College and two knee operations later his competition days were over. Graduation from San Jose State 1976 with a BS in Physical Education he became the head wrestling coach at his alma mater Oak Grove. There were no teaching positions available and after a year Duane became the head coach at Overfelt in 1981 and coached 6 consecutive league championship teams with a dual meet record of 101-1. During this time he produced 8 all-state wrestlers, 25 section placers and 10 All Americans. The greatest attribute that Duane considers is that he has 7 ex-wrestlers now coaching and teaching wrestling throughout the state. Currently, Duane is actively involved in USAW and California USA Wrestling. Duane is the Chairman of California of USA Wrestling. He has been the USAW National Junior Chairman since the inception of the position for 12 years ago. He has served as the 2nd vice president of USAW and is currently the First Vice President of USAW, the 2nd highest position on the Board of Directors for USAW. Duane also serves as the Chairman of the Junior Olympic Committee, which oversees the activities of the grassroots on the National level. He is the Commissioner of the Northern California Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association and the Assigning Secretary for the Santa Clara and Monterey Bay Area Wrestling Officials. He has officiated at numerous State Community College Championships and the past 14 State CIF Wrestling championships.

COMPETED FOR 45 YEARS. JOE MADE NUMEROUS CONTRIBUTIONS TO FREE- STYLE WRESTLING AS A COMPETITOR, FILA (INTERNATIONAL) OFFICIAL FOR 20 YEARS, AS AN ORGANIZER OF A POST COLLEGIATE WRESTLING PROGRAM AT THE INGLEWOOD Y.M.C.A.     Monty Muller - Monty, started wrestling 1964 as a freshman @ La Sierra High School in Sacramento and is a member of the La Sierra High School Hall of Fame. Monty, attended and wrestled at American River College, and was their most valuable wrestler and is a member of their Hall of Fame. He also wrestled for San Francisco State University, and was their most valuable wrestler and Far Western Conference Champion. After, graduating from San Francisco State and earning his teaching credential, Monty coached and taught at several schools. Norte Del Rio High School 1970-1971, Mira Loma High School 1972-1974, American River College Assistant Wrestling Coach 1974-1976, Mesa Verde High School 1976-1980. He has refereed 18 CIF State Tournaments and been ranked the #1 official at this meet several times. He has worked over 30 Section and Sub-section meets, 20 years of Junior College meets including, numerous State Junior College tournament and regional meets. At the NCAA College level he has worked the Western Regional Division 2 meet 6 times, and numerous dual meets and tournaments at the, NCAA Division level. Monty had been the President of the Northern California Officials Association for 2 terms, President of California Wrestling Official Association for 4 terms, President of Northern California Officials Coaches Association 1996- current, and is Commissioner of Wrestling Officials for the San Joaquin Section for many years. He has wrestled in Japan and Korea several times as an exchange member andwas the Japanese Wrestling Exchange Assistant Chairperson 1969-1980. He starting a wrestling program in his school district, 10 years ago, he started a junior high program that had 5-6 schools participating, now it is up to 7-8 schools and other districts have followed his lead.

    Ivan O. Olsen Ð Ivan was the head wrestling coach at the following San Diego High Schools; San Diego Vocational School, Holtville HS, Snyder Continuation HS, Lincoln HS and Madison HS for a total of 33 years. At San Jose State University, he was a Far Western Champion, the Pacific Coast Conference Champion twice, a National AAU Champion and placed 3rd in the 1936 Olympic Trails. He founded the San Diego Keylock Association, recognized several times as the San Diego Coach of the Year and was a national pairing master. Ivan has been inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (California Chapter) for his contributions to the sport of wrestling. He passed away at 73 years of age in 1986 returning home from a tournament.

    Kirby Page Ð Was one of the fathers of San Joaquin Valley wrestling. He coached for 58 years (Football 50, Basketball 17, Baseball 25, Wrestling 41, & track 3 for a total of 136 seasons). He coached most of his career at Linden HS. He won many league champions in Football, Basketball, Baseball, Track & Wrestling. Kirby was the weigh master and head timer for the State CIF Wrestling Tournament in Stockton for 18 years. He hosted and was director of the league twice, Sub-Section twice and the San Joaquin Sections 3 times. He is currently 88 years old.

    Anthony Palomino - ATTENDED INDEPENDENCE H.S., SAN JOSE. A THREE-TIME LEAGUE CHAMPION, TWO TIME CIF SECTION CHAMPION AND CIF STATE H.S. CHAMPION AND ALL AMERICAN. HE ATTENDED SAN JOSE STATE WHERE HE WAS A ONE-TIME CONFERENCE CHAMPION. HE STARTED HIS COACHING CAREER AT INDEPENDENCE IN 1990 AND IN NINE YEARS HE AMASSED A 112-23 DUAL MEET RECORD. HE WAS ALSO NAMED CALIFORNIA COACH OF THE YEAR IN 1995. HE HAS PRODUCED MANY CIF SECTION AND STATE CHAMPIONS INCLUDING ERIC GUERRERO. HIS TEAMS HAVE PLACED IN THE TOP 10 IN THE STATE CIF 5 TIMES INCLUDING ONE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM AND TWO RUNNER-UP TEAMS.

    Doc Peterson Ð Hal is a graduate of Oregon State University, 1955. Art Acker former Dean and Head of the Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Athletic Program hired him at Chico State to teach Health in 1956. Dr. Peterson also served as the Athletic Trainer at Chico State for many years. Hal Peterson is known as the ÒFather of Northern California High School Wrestling.Ó DocÕs work and effort in promotion wrestling via clinics and workshops is how wrestling was started in the Northern High School Section. Dr. Petersen coached wrestling at Chico State from 1958-1968. His teams were outstanding. Under his leadership, Chico State University dominated the Far Western Conference through the 1960Õs. Coach Peterson Ôs team won five Far Western Conference Team Championships. His team placed 2nd once, and 3rd twice in the Far Western Conference. He coached numerous individual championships. In 1964, his team won the NCAA Pacific Coast Regional Tournament.

Coached Livingston's first ever State Medallists (5th/2nd/6th). #1 ranked Dual Meet Team in California (1973 and 1974), 1973 18-1 record, 1974, 21-0 record and (defeated Clovis High who won the State Championship that year).     Jesse Reyes Ð Wrestled at Bakersfield H.S. where he was 3rd (1976) and 1st (1978) in the South Yosemite League and 3rd in the Central Section in 1978. He wrestled for Cal State Bakersfield 4th and placed 4th (1983) and 1st (1984) in the NCAA Division II National Championships and was he Outstanding Wrestler. He won the NCAA Division I National Championships in 1984 and placed 6th (1985) and 5th (1990) in the USA National Freestyle Championships.

    Judy Rider Ð Judy has been a longtime wrestling supporter in the State of California. She has had 3 boys go through the system from USAW to NCAA level competition and she has been at their side supporting their efforts. Judy has a pairing license and is a category 1 for USAW and is also the head pairing person for California USAW. Judy was the instrumental force in setting up the kids program in Hollister called the Razorback Wrestling Club. Judy is also the president of the Board of Trustees for San Benito Union High School district.

    Nancy Schultz Ð Contributor Founder of the Dave Schultz Wrestling club. Nation Board Member USA Wrestling has continued the legacy of her late husband, Olympic Gold Medalist, Dave Schultz, as one of AmericaÕs premier ambassadors for the sport of wrestling.     Heath Sims - Two-time California State High School Champion from Woodbridge H.S. Irvine Ca. Went to Cerritos J.C. was a state champ. In 1998, Runner-up in 1999. Made the US Olympic Greco Team in 2000.

    Steve Siroy Ð Steve was a member of the 1972 wrestling team that brought Chabot College its first State Wrestling Championship. He has been involved with all six of ChabotÕs State championships, as a competitor and an assistant coach. Steve was a two-time All American, team captain and State Champion. His two year record was 75-5-1. He attended UCLA on a scholarship where he was team captain and 2nd in the Pac 8 Tournament in 1974. He was a Junior National Champion in Judo, two-time AAU National Freestyle Champion, alternate on the USA Olympic Team in 1976, three-time National Sombo Champion, National Sports Festival West Team and Pan American Team captain and 5th in the World in 1977. He is a black belt in judo. He has been the head wrestling coach at Chabot since 1983 and his teams have placed 2nd and 4th in the State JC Championships.

    Jeff Smith Ð Bellflower H.S. Went to Cerritos J.C, Two time State J.C, Champ. Went to Michigan State two-time runner-up Heavyweight division. Pan Am team member 1972. Only college person to beat Chris Taylor. Would have been on the Olympic Team in 1972 but he blew out a knee.

    Shirley Spencer Ð Shirley is an active leader in California USA Wrestling activities. Under her leadership, California became the leader of mat pairing officials in the US. Her training programs are used as models by officials in other states. Within California, the confidence of the membership and the quality of the pairing room was a tribute to her dedication. Some of ShirleyÕs major contributions and accomplishments include: being the first pairing director to serve on the Board of USA Wrestling, developed the state pairing system for training mat pairing officials, organized officials clinics throughout the state, was largely responsible for the increase of USAW Officials in the state from 100 to over 400 officials, created a mini-grant program to assist mat pairers and officials to attend National and Regional Tournaments, worked numerous National and Regional Tournaments and reached the highest category as ÒExceptionalÓ, was a member of the National Pairing Board responsible for assignments to all National and regional tournaments and was selected to work the World Wrestling Championships in Atlanta.

    Terry Tuzzolino Ð Terry was a State High School Runner-up for San Juan Capistrano H.S. He then wrestled for Santa Ana JC where he finished 2nd at the JC State Tournament. In 2000 he was 1st in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and 1st at NCAA Div II Championships at 197lbs and the Most Valuable Wrestler.

    Roger Warner Ð State JC Champiion at Diablo Valley college. Attended Cal Poly and in 1974 Won the NCAA Division II Championships and placed 3rd at the NCAA Division I Championships.

    Floyd Winter Ð He was the first American to win a Greco Roman Gold Medal in world competition when he won the World Military Championships in 1972. He coached the All Army wrestling Team for 8 years, winning 2 National Championships and 4X runner-ups. He has been on the USA National Coaching Staff for the past 29 years, asst coaching the 1984 & 1988 Olympic Greco Roman Teams as well as coaching USA teams in World and International competition. As a wrestler in the Army, Floyd won 14 gold medals in the Armed Forces Wrestling Championships. He won the National Championship in 1977 and was runner up 3X. He won 4 medals in the World Military Championship. Currently, Floyd is working as the Fort Dix Sports and Fitness Director.
